And transcendence was their common pursuit; only transcendence could break fate.

Thirteenth rank Time Beings could watch future timelines and, to a degree, change the future—change their fate.

But that change was small-scale, a change to “small fate.

” The great fate—tied to the final destiny of the endless dimensional operation—could not be altered.

Therefore, every Time Lord pursued transcendence.

Among many transcendent paths, metamorphosing into a fourteenth rank perfect Time Being was the most orthodox.

But it was also the hardest; to date, none had succeeded by that route.
