" Chinedu barked at the teammate who’d raised the alarm.
"Now!
Get Mariana’s squad here, get the Association, get anyone!
" Why did he not call the veterans for help?
Because that would be breaking the rules of the competition.

The man with the comms artifact was already screaming into his gadget.
Ash held his ground nearby, blade carving into a Slasher that had lunged at Brittany’s exposed flank.
The hit carved a deep gouge across its thorax and sent it skidding sideways, ichor spraying.
"Fucking die already!
" He swung again, two-handed, and the second blow caved in the creature’s skull.
Level seventy-five.
He was stronger than them individually, and he was proving it with every kill.
Blood on his teeth, profanity on his lips, fighting the way Ash always fought: angry, loud, yet undeniably effective.
After all, Chinedu wasn’t the only S-tier awakened fighter in the skirmish.
Ash was supposed to be his equal, both in class tier and level.
But the pack didn’t fight as singles.
Three came from the left while two flanked right.
The alpha shrieked and the formation shifted, cutting off the angle Chinedu had been exploiting.
He dropped one after a brutal four-hit exchange and two more filled the gap before his spear finished its recovery arc.
The basin was tight, the Colossus was still raging behind them, and every second the S-tiers spent on individual Slashers was a second the rest of the squad spent getting attacked.
They were losing ground quickly.
The formation was shattering.
Not from lack of gear.
New Dawn’s near-limitless funding had outfitted every member with great armor, enchanted weapons, and defensive artifacts that would’ve been the envy of most veteran guilds.
The equipment was excellent.
Same was true for Ashbound.
Ash and his three partners were members worth protecting.
That’s why the issue wasn’t shabby gear, but the people inside.
They’d been trained, extensively.
Hours of tactical footage.
Classroom lectures on monster behavior, formation theory, threat assessment.
Supervised drills against controlled spawns in guild training grounds where the danger was real but measured.
On paper, they were prepared.
Paper didn’t bleed.
The first Slasher that broke through the perimeter came low and fast, forelimbs scything at knee height.
The fighter it targeted did exactly what the textbook said.
Dropped his shield, braced for impact, activated his defensive barrier.
Perfect form.
The barrier held for the first hit.
The second Slasher hit him from the angle the textbook didn’t cover, and his shoulder guard shattered inward.
He went down screaming, and the two creatures were on him before anyone could close the gap.
Chinedu killed both of them four seconds later.
Four seconds was a long time when you were being eaten alive.
It only took a dozen seconds for all of it to fall apart.
The buffer abandoned all offensive support and burned through everything she had keeping them alive, golden sigils flaring and dimming as her mana cratered.
The fighters tried to hold a perimeter that shrank with every exchange.
Kaiden watched it all.
His expression had gone quiet.
The Wrath was gone.
The satisfaction was gone.
What remained was something colder than both, something Luna had seen only a handful of times since they’d awakened together.
These people had stalked his team for days.
Stolen their kills.
Crippled their growth.
They had followed Kaiden into the deep range with smiles on their faces and theft in their hands, and when he’d stood on the plateau above them, they had laughed.
Ash had called him a fag on a live broadcast.
Chinedu had waved like they were old friends.
They were not friends.
Luna watched his face and felt nothing but spite for the people below.
"My beautiful angels.
" He spoke up, addressing his girls with a tender voice.
His expression remained ice cold.
"Our fellow awakened combatants are in a life-or-death situation.
" His tone was measured.
Almost formal.
The voice of a man addressing a civic responsibility.
"It is our duty to help them out.
" He shifted his stance, entering the sin of Pride.
The air changed.
The temperature dropped.
Pressure built across the ridge like the moment before a thunderclap, and the dark halo above Kaiden’s head flared as Alice’s Conduit light bled gold at the edges.
Arcane sigils traced themselves into existence around his forearm, spiraling outward in rings of violet and black.
The attack built between his palms.
A sphere of compressed arcane force, fed by Pride’s authority.
The sigils locked into place around it like the chambers of a revolver.
Kaiden raised his hands toward the basin.
His aim drifted across the chaos below.
Across the Slashers tearing through the defensive line.
Across the Colossus crushing everything beneath its feet.
Across Chinedu’s desperate spear work and Ash’s wild swings and the buffer pouring her last reserves into keeping so many bodies breathing.
His aim settled on the center of the killing floor.
Where the monsters were.
Where the humans were.
Where the difference between the two had stopped mattering.
Luna’s Storm crackled to life.
Violet lightning arced between her fingers, aimed at the same cluster of bodies below.
No distinction.
No discrimination.
Calypso’s Carnage erupted across her skin, dark energy pooling in her axe as she raised it overhead, grinning with every tooth she owned.
Aria’s moonlight concentrated into a piercing beam between her palms, silver and cold.
Bastet’s dominion seized the stone beneath her feet.
The ground hummed with heat, pressure building toward eruption.
And above Kaiden’s head, Alice burned.
The dark halo ignited gold, Conduit light blazing, a beam of Radiant Devastation already forming at its core.
The Light That Destroys, aimed downward into the basin without a shred of hesitation.
Weapons trained on a killing floor where the line between rescue and massacre was a matter of aim.
Kaiden’s grin was the last thing the basin needed as he declared, "Let’s start blasting.
