Invincible Copy System
Chapter Summary
When we applied, we were told we were here to do odd jobs, but if this guy is making more money than us, he's probably just a sparring partner for those guys. If he's just a sparring partner for those guys, who knows how badly he'll get beaten up every day. The Fusang Martial Arts School must have paid a lot of money, so the patrol station just gave them a casual remark and let it go.
"Is that even possible? I thought we all got paid the same. If that's the case, then our jobs are probably different too. When we applied, we were told we were here to do odd jobs, but if this guy is making more money than us, he's probably just a sparring partner for those guys. If that's the case, then making a little more money isn't a big deal. If he's just a sparring partner for those guys, who knows how badly he'll get beaten up every day. They're all so strong, even a warrior apprentice isn't a match for them, let alone us ordinary people. You're really unlucky to be a sparring partner for those guys right after you came in. Even though there are all sorts of protective gear, they can still beat you until you vomit blood. Maybe you should really change jobs, it could really kill you."
A guy next to me used to work at a martial arts gym, so he understood what was going on. The highest-paid people there were the sparring partners, who worked a maximum of four hours a day. During those four hours, they'd put on the best protective gear and make you a human punching bag, getting hit over and over. Even so, you'd be covered in injuries. Although the protective gear was excellent, those people were far stronger than ordinary people. Each serious injury could potentially shatter your bones. The others had been envious of Liu Ning's high earnings, but after hearing about his work, they probably had nothing to envy anymore. He was risking his life; we wouldn't survive, so it was better to earn less money. That was the right thing to do.
"Stop trying to scare us. We've all registered with the naval base. How could we possibly be their human punching bags? Everyone knows the situation. If they want to recruit sparring partners, they can't even get past the naval base. They have to apply to them first. Don't be so rude to this young man. Can't you see how pale he is? He must have some other purpose. If we were to be their sparring partners, I'd be the first to leave. I'd rather die than risk my life. Who are they and who are we? The difference between us is enormous."
Another guy patted Liu Ning on the shoulder, telling him not to worry too much. This was clearly just jealousy; he knew Liu Ning's salary wasn't as high, so he was trying to scare him. The garrison had strict rules about this job. A place like yours that teaches martial arts couldn't hire laborers as sparring partners. If they were, it would be a violation of the garrison's regulations, and they'd be fined a lot of money every year. Besides, it was inhumane. Imagine an ordinary person sparring with a martial artist—the outcome was predictable. No matter how strong they were, they couldn't escape. If they ended up with a lifelong disability, that would be the worst thing.
Liu Ning smiled and nodded. In fact, he had already seen through what these people were saying. They were just talking nonsense. If they really needed sparring partners, they wouldn't want Liu Ning. They would definitely go outside to find soldiers or apprentices like Liu Ning. These people's physical fitness is not good. Even if you put on the best protective equipment and drink the best drugs, you will never be a match for those people. So if they hired people like Liu Ning as sparring partners, they would lose too much money every month. They can't kill all these people, can they? They would still need medical treatment and medication. In the end, it would cost them a lot of money. So no one would do that.
Everyone chatted for about 20 minutes, and by then there wasn't much left to say. They were all strangers, not acquaintances, so they'd covered most of their conversations and went back to their beds. Liu Ning opened his system to check the surroundings. Just as he did, the door to the next room opened. The room next door was quite different from this one. Liu Ning's room was relatively small, so there were fewer people inside, but the room next door was different. Nearly a dozen people had just opened their door, and four more were thrown in. It seemed they recruited quite a few people every day.
Liu Ning wasn't someone who hadn't seen the world. Although he hadn't achieved much in business, Zhang Jing's company specialized in this, so he knew a thing or two about recruiting people. Let alone a place that trains dancers, even if it were a business, it wouldn't be possible to recruit so many people every day. The only reason for recruiting so many people every day could be that your staff was being used up too much. If you weren't using up so many people, how could you possibly recruit so many?
Actually, all the agents knew this was a problem, and they should have reported it long ago. But what happened when agents tried to do it before? They lost their lives. So where would they report it to? The naval headquarters certainly wouldn't care; they'd definitely push it to the patrol station. Do you think the people at the patrol station didn't take bribes?
The Fusang Martial Arts School must have paid a lot of money, so the patrol station just gave them a casual remark and let it go. If they were to really investigate, they wouldn't dare to be so blatant now. After all, many missing persons are connected to this place. If they were allowed to continue operating, then what would the patrol station be saying? They've already given them a lot of money, so they don't care about those who went missing before. They still have to continue operating now, which is one of the reasons why the Human Investigation Bureau is investigating.
"Everyone, assemble in the courtyard immediately. Don't bring your clothes out; just hand them to the people at the gate. We'll be distributing work uniforms and assigning you rest areas. Everyone must follow instructions. Anyone who disobeys will be fired tonight. Also, I have to tell you something: from now on, no one is allowed to get up after 8 PM. If anyone comes out after 8 PM, don't blame us for being impolite. You can imagine what kind of punishment that will be..."
