Chapter Summary
Liu Ning was extremely powerful in this city, and if he were to clash with him here, the plan to distribute mages might very well fall through. Besides Liu Ning, Zhao Wudi was the war god of this city, and Zhao Wudi would never side with the Mage Guild. Now that the Mage's Guild has lost so much face, instead of trying to regain it, you're thinking about doing these trivial things?
Linley came here not for revenge, but to see if Yale was almost fully recovered. Another reason was for something more serious: to establish a branch of the Mage's Guild here.
For this reason, Lin Lei was even less likely to antagonize Liu Ning. Liu Ning was extremely powerful in this city, and if he were to clash with him here, the plan to distribute mages might very well fall through. Besides Liu Ning, Zhao Wudi was the war god of this city, and Zhao Wudi would never side with the Mage Guild. Although he might not truly consider you an enemy, it was entirely possible that he would sabotage your endeavors.
Previously, the Mage Guild looked down on this city, considering it just a small city and not worth having an office there. But things are different now. During the last attack by the ferocious beasts, the Mage Guild discovered that this little-known city had actually withstood the attack. This shows that there are quite a few experts here, and it would be much more convenient to set up an office here.
"Set up an office? Is that your main reason for coming here? I thought you were here to get revenge for me. You have no idea how despicable that kid is. He doesn't respect us mages at all. If I don't break one of his legs, I won't be able to quell my anger. You should go and get revenge for me. Leave the office stuff to others. If this matter is just left like this, how am I supposed to face people in the future? How is our Mage Guild supposed to face people in the future? You have no idea how much our reputation has dropped recently, especially in this city. Many people think we are unworthy of our reputation."
After hearing Linley's words, Yale could hardly believe it. Coming all this way not to seek revenge on that kid? What were you even doing here? Even if you just wanted to set up an office, you could just find anyone to do it. Did you really need to bother a mage? You know, there are plenty of people in the Mage's Guild; there's never a shortage of ordinary people. Mages only need to improve their own strength; we don't need to worry about anything else. Now that the Mage's Guild has lost so much face, instead of trying to regain it, you're thinking about doing these trivial things? I really don't know what you're thinking.
Yale has always believed that magicians are superior beings, and that humans are completely different from other humans. Therefore, when the Magicians' Guild has something to do, everything else has to take a backseat. Many people in society think this way, but there are also some people who don't think this way. For example, Liu Ning doesn't value magicians much. If he did, he wouldn't have ended up fighting with magicians like this.
In Yale's eyes, such a person should not be allowed to continue to develop. When we encounter such people, we should either eliminate them or stay away from them. However, he would never choose the second option because if he did, he would no longer be able to live a life of arrogance. Therefore, this guy was determined to eliminate Liu Ning.
"Calm down. I know you've suffered a lot in this matter, but have you forgotten what we were like back then? Why did we join the Mage's Guild? Do you remember our oath? Weren't we there to pave a path for humanity? Weren't we there to hunt down all the ferocious beasts and give humanity more space? Your fight was purely a misunderstanding, so don't escalate this further. I know that kid; he's not a bastard. He's very useful in hunting ferocious beasts, even more so than you and me. We are the future of humanity. Why fight amongst ourselves? Only the ferocious beasts will be happy."
Linley said somewhat excitedly that it would be difficult for him to suppress this matter within the Mage's Guild. If Yale continued to dwell on it, Linley could predict the final outcome. Therefore, Linley needed to do everything he could to persuade Yale. Only through cooperation could humanity's power grow stronger. If it led to an internal conflict among humans, it could very well escalate into a showdown between the Second Speaker and the Mage's Guild. This was no small matter; it could potentially become a disaster for all of humanity, shaking the very foundations of humankind.
"I don't want to hear your ramblings. You're not even my friend anymore. I've been beaten up like this, and all you're thinking about is that guy? I've been blind all these years. That guy is a poisoner, haven't you forgotten? What did you say before? You said you hated poisoners the most. Now you've changed your mind. Is that guy a magician too? Does he have some kind of magic? Has he made you stupid?"
Becoming friends with Liu Ning was absolutely impossible for Lin Lei. Yale interrupted him before he could finish speaking. Yale thought that although Lin Lei was a bit old-fashioned, he was definitely not that kind of person. Why was he acting like this now? Could it be that Liu Ning knew some kind of witchcraft? Otherwise, why wouldn't Lin Lei avenge him? This was his best friend.
"I was just about to say something similar. I've always hated poisoners because they target humans. But that guy didn't poison anyone in human society; you were the first one. Why poison you? He explained it himself: because you're a magician, the most powerful enemy he'd ever encountered. If he hadn't used all his skills, he probably wouldn't be alive now. So I think it's forgivable. Besides, you won't suffer any aftereffects after you recover. A poisoner who wanted to harm you would never have given up their antidote. So I think this guy is an upright person. If we get along well, we can definitely become friends, and we can even team up to hunt god-level beasts..."
Lin Lei got more and more excited as he spoke, but unfortunately Yale couldn't listen.
