Chapter Summary
As for how long the soak had to last, the System provided a progress bar; when the bar filled, the skill synthesis would be complete. If the quantity turned out to be huge, it would cost him more than if the System had simply demanded cash. “Sixty-four million?” Only in a fairly large pharmacy did Liu Ning find A-grade Nutrient Solution: five kilograms in stock, priced at 64 million per kilogram.
When Liu Ning clicked to view the rest of the conditions, he almost cursed out loud. Was the System Now resorting to tricks? It used to ask for money straight-up; apparently that was no longer enough—he had to meet all kinds of extra requirements too.
There was only one synthesis requirement: soak his hands in Nutrient Solution.
As for how long the soak had to last, the System provided a progress bar; when the bar filled, the skill synthesis would be complete.
Liu Ning had a bad feeling. Without a clear target, how much Nutrient Solution would he need? The stuff wasn't valuable in itself, but the demand specified A-grade Nutrient Solution—the highest grade—and that was no cheap item. If the quantity turned out to be huge, it would cost him more than if the System had simply demanded cash.
Beep-beep-beep… While Liu Ning was still thinking, his smart device rang: an incoming call from Wei Xiong, who hadn't forgotten about today's business.
“Pay attention, kid—I've already registered you. Tomorrow morning is the Junior Warrior assessment. Don't forget to report to the Number One Martial Arts Hall under the Garrison Headquarters. Miss this chance and you wait another half-month.”
Wei Xiong's trademark booming voice came through so loudly that even someone hard of hearing could catch every word.
The news delighted Liu Ning; he could finally test for a new certificate. Right Now he was still only a Warrior Apprentice, which caused problems in many places. Holding a Junior Warrior certificate would change everything.
The Garrison Headquarters offered preferential treatment to warriors. Even a Junior Warrior enjoyed certain benefits—discounts on purchases, for example. Liu Ning didn't care much about the money, but something was better than nothing; even a mosquito's leg was still meat.
Liu Ning promised Wei Xiong again and again that he would show up for the assessment tomorrow morning; only then did Wei Xiong hang up. Mainly, Wei Xiong felt Liu Ning was unreliable and feared he might forget, which would be a major headache.
For Wei Xiong's Gathering Point, producing a new Junior Warrior was big news. The Garrison Headquarters would allocate an extra 800,000 a month in resources. Though 800,000 wasn't huge, it was a steady stream—almost ten million a year.
Liu Ning set a reminder on his smart device and headed straight out. He had to buy a batch of Nutrient Solution. Online malls only sold ordinary grades; to get A-grade he had to visit a pharmacy in person with his ID.
After all, A-grade Nutrient Solution was so expensive that no courier dared to carry it. If it went missing in transit, the courier would spend ten years working to pay for the loss.
Liu Ning actually had another idea: he himself was a Pharmacist. If the quantity proved excessive, he could simply compound Nutrient Agent himself. But after checking online he tossed the idea aside.
Nutrient Solution differed from other Potions; it could be mass-produced. With enough raw Materials, anyone could brew it, so its price stayed close to the cost of Materials—just a bit of labor. There was no point in doing it himself.
“Sixty-four million?”
Only in a fairly large pharmacy did Liu Ning find A-grade Nutrient Solution: five kilograms in stock, priced at 64 million per kilogram.
He had known it wouldn't be cheap, but hadn't expected A-grade to cost so much. Back when Li Tie Cultivated Iron Fist, he had used F-grade, reportedly a few hundred thousand per kilogram. A-grade cost many times more; one kilogram could buy a whole glass cabinet of F-grade.
“Yes, sir. Our price is very fair. Elsewhere you might pay a bit less, but the quality won't match. We have our own license and a large shop; we'd never sell Nutrient Solution with Impurities.”
The Waiter beamed. This was a huge sale; if Liu Ning bought here, the commission alone would bring in several hundred thousand.
Liu Ning scanned with the System. On the top shelf behind the man was the shop's treasure: five kilograms of A-grade Nutrient Solution at 99.99% purity—excellent, but was 300-plus million really worth it?
He checked online and found prices were about the same. Black-market solution ran around 58 million, but the purity was lower; they mixed in other things. Liu Ning wasn't short of cash, so he swiped his card and paid.
“Sir… take… care…”
The Waiter's voice trembled. He had assumed Liu Ning would only ask the price and then buy a lower grade, but Liu Ning actually paid. Even the store manager hurried out. The stock had sat here nearly a year; Now it was finally sold.
Normally Liu Ning should have placed the Nutrient Solution in a dedicated nutrient pod, which could set the optimal temperature for maximum effect, but he didn't bother. Finding a quiet corner, he simply plunged his hands in to see how far five kilograms would push the bar.
Since his Rebirth into this world, this was Liu Ning's first time soaking in Nutrient Solution. It felt pleasant—a warm glow spread through him.
The solution began changing; Liu Ning could see it with his own eyes. Once bright green, it slowly paled, heading toward colorless water—did that mean all nutrients had been absorbed?
Liu Ning quickly opened the System to check the progress bar.
